A space to learn about wedding invitation Design, etiquette and stationery history
This is part three of a series called One a Day in May, where we will review one wedding stationery term every day in May!
Enclosure cards by definition are any additional cards that you choose to enclose in your invitation suite. The invite card itself has a specific job and there are certain “rules” around what goes on it, as we discussed in our post about the invitation card. But enclosure cards are really your opportunity to make the invitation suite an experience for your guests.
Having a welcome party for out-of-town guests when they arrive for the weekend? There’s an enclosure card for that! How about the details for your rehearsal dinner? There’s an enclosure card for that! Want to provide a precious, hand-drawn map to your secluded, romantic ceremony in the woods? There’s an enclosure card for that! Need to let everyone know you’ve reserved a block of rooms at the best hotel in town and that’s also where your guests can catch their free shuttle to your wedding? Well, you get the idea.
Don’t worry, you do not need to include one card for every event you’re hosting! You can include as many events on one enclosure card as you’d like. Make sure that when you include those events on the enclosure card, they are going to guests that are actually invited to that event. If Aunt Becky isn’t invited to the rehearsal dinner, don’t send her the information for it – otherwise, she could show up, and that would be an awkward conversation. We’re happy to help organize your guests and make sure they get the right information in their invitations!
Your enclosure card doesn’t have to be boring! For Patrick and Jake’s invitations, we created a die-cut folded map with a tear-away reply card that served as a wrap for the invitation! One side has a map of all the weekend activities, and the other has important details like where and when. Not only was it a very informative piece of paper, but it will also serve as a keepsake for their guests to remember all the fun they had that weekend!
The reply card is also considered an enclosure card, but we are going to go over that in more detail in our next post!
