A space to learn about wedding invitation Design, etiquette and stationery history
This is partnine of a series called One a Day in May, where we will review one wedding stationery term every day in May!
A venue illustration is an artistic rendering of your wedding venue, or location, and is one of my favorite ways to customize save the dates and invitations. We love including them as an alternative to photo save the dates since engagement photos might not always be your thing!
We specialize in watercolor or line drawing venue illustrations – both styles can fit into a lot of different aesthetics, so they are a great option to include on your invitations. Some fun ways to incorporate venue illustrations is as an envelope liner, on the back of the invitation card, as a smaller element on the front of the invite card, or as its own insert so it can be a keepsake for your guests to frame later.
When deciding on a venue illustration, it’s important to find the best angle to illustrate it from. A lot of times we can remove trees, or signs, or other unsightly things, and add in flowers and other foliage. One of our clients wanted a vintage style save the date postcard, so we found a vintage photograph of their venue, and drew it from that angle – which inaccessible today! Providing a lot of photographs really help with the venue illustration, since we sometimes have to reference multiple detail shots to get the illustration perfect!
All our venue illustrations come with an 8×10” keepsake print for you to keep as a reminder of how wonderful your day was!
