A space to learn about wedding invitation Design, etiquette and stationery history
This is parteight of a series called One a Day in May, where we will review one wedding stationery term every day in May!
Vellum is a great addition to any invitation suite – it’s transparent enough that it doesn’t block any important information but opaque enough that it can stand on its own and have legible text on it.
The vellum includes either a printed design or text and is overlaid on top of another card, which can also contain design elements or text. It’s such a great way to add that little extra depth and interest to your suite!
Our favorite one so far has to be this travel-themed suite that includes the phrase ‘I do believe its time for another adventure”. The couple had met while traveling and once they met in an airport and there was a large letter sign that included that phrase – it was the perfect way to describe their relationship, and we had to find a way to include it on their invitation. We printed it on vellum and attached it to the invitation card with a single brad, so the vellum overlay could swing out to reveal the watercolor painting behind it.
We’ve also included vellum overlays as the invitation, attached to a card with a wax seal. The card included a watercolor wash on watercolor paper – which would have been hard to print on. It was a great way to include a more handmade element, but still being able to convey the information the guests needed for the wedding!
