A space to learn about wedding invitation Design, etiquette and stationery history
This is part two of a series called One a Day in May, where we will review one wedding stationery term every day in May!
This might sound simple enough but most people don’t realize the massive background in etiquette surrounding wedding invitation cards. I’ll spare you some of the more mundane details but here are a few tidbits my clients have found helpful:
Invitation cards should include the names of the people getting married and depending on things like family traditions and who is paying for the wedding, the couple’s parents’ names. It should also include what is happening (i.e. a ceremony, reception, or both), where it will be happening and the date and time it will start. Also, if you are aiming for an “adults only” affair, it’s generally considered acceptable to mention that on the invitation, although it looks a little nicer to reserve that kind of verbiage for another card in your suite.
Invitation cards should NOT include your wedding website or registry information. It is not the place to include directions or hotel blocks you have reserved, or for information regarding other events you have planned for your guests, think rehearsal dinner, welcome cocktails, day-after brunch, etc. Those kinds of fun activities should be listed on their own itinerary card.
